Puzzles with Heart

Free Puzzles and New Books

One of the big advantages of Puzzazz is the ability to have an almost unlimited supply of puzzles available instantly, no matter where you are.

It turns out this is even true if you're stuck at home.

With the generous assistance of our puzzle creators, we're pleased to announce the Puzzles with Heart program, a giant set of free and discounted puzzles that you'll enjoy no matter where you are.

The Green Heart — we chose a heart because it's a symbol of love and we chose green because it's a symbol of life. Look for the Green Heart to indicate books that are part of the program. This is one of our ways of paying it forward. In a crisis, everybody should help in whatever way they know best, and, for us, that means puzzles.

If you're enjoying the puzzles, please consider paying it forward yourself in your local community.

For more information on the program and ways to find charities, please visit:

We'd love to hear what you're doing on Facebook and Twitter.

Here's what we've got in this newsletter:

  • A NEW, FREE book of Variety Cryptics by Bob Stigger
  • Five great crossword books that we've made FREE for now
  • A fantastic NEW book of Diagramless Crosswords by Carol Lachance at 30% off
  • FREE daily KenKen® and Sudoku puzzles

Note: To get one of the free books, you have to "Buy" it for $0.00, either in the app or on the web site. We're doing it this way so that the books you get remain yours after we reset the prices in the future.

The free and discounted pricing will remain in effect until May 4th, matching the current "Stay Home" directive here in Washington State.

New, FREE Variety Cryptics

by Bob Stigger

Staycation Cryptics by Bob Stigger

Bob Stigger is a master constructor and editor, and the puzzles in Staycation Cryptics are great!

Bob approached us about a small collection of variety cryptics that he wanted to offer for free in a "Pay it Forward" model. This dovetailed perfectly with our Puzzles with Heart program.

In addition to releasing Staycation Cryptics as a free ebook, we're also taking the unusual step of making the puzzles available as a downloadable PDF, so as many people as possible can solve these great puzzles. To download the PDF, visit:

Five FREE Crossword Books

We've chosen some great crossword books with a range of difficulties, so, whatever your preferences, you'll find something you'll like in Puzzles with Heart! Huge thanks go out to our independent constructors for joining in.

XWORDZ 4 NEWBS by Parker Lewis — A great collection of slightly smaller crosswords, particularly suited for new solvers. If you're already an experienced solver, these puzzles are zero-star puzzles, a bit easier than a "Monday" puzzle.

Chromatics by David Steinberg — Another book of easy crosswords, think "Monday" puzzles. This was the first puzzle book from the current editor of the Universal Crossword.

Smooth as Silk by Patrick Jordan — Like the name implies, these are smooth puzzles that are about a "Wednesday" level, if you're looking for something a bit more challenging.

Wide Open Crosswords by Brendan Emmett Quigley — These are great "Friday" level themeless crosswords by one of the most prolific crossword constructors out there. And check out The Hub Crossword by Brendan along with Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon.

Killer Cryptics by Mike Selinker — If you're into cryptic crosswords, this is a book of traditional block cryptics by one of the best in the business. The last puzzle is one of the best you'll ever solve!

New!  Out of the Shadows

30% Off on Diagramless Crosswords by Carol Lachance

Out of the Shadows: Diagramless Crosswords by Carol Lachance

Out of the Shadows is Puzzazz’s first book of diagramless crosswords by Carol Lachance.

Diagramless puzzles are an under-appreciated niche in the world of crosswords. Compared to a regular crossword, even a cryptic crossword, diagramless puzzles look unapproachable. But hidden in the enigmatic blank grid is an extra dose of logical reasoning and a fun challenge.

On paper, it's a big challenge and you'll need an eraser. In Puzzazz, you can slide parts of the grid around as you figure out where things go and see the shape coming together.

As part of Puzzles with Heart, we're discounting the book 30% and we're making the first five puzzles free (out of 25), rather than the usual one puzzle. Check it out!

FREE Daily KenKen® and Sudoku

But, wait, there's more!

Every day, you'll find new, free KenKen and Sudoku puzzles. These puzzles start out easy on Monday and get harder throughout the week. If you've tried our daily Sudoku in the past and found them too hard on Monday or too easy on Sunday, we've tuned up the difficulty levels for a better ramp up during the week.

If you're a New York Times Crossword subscriber, Puzzazz is the best way, hands down, to solve it on iOS (in fact, on any platform). Puzzazz is the only app to support the print version of the NYT crossword every day, including whatever tricks Will Shortz and his team might have up their collective sleeves. Solving the NYT crossword is FREE in Puzzazz (subscription from the NYT is required).

You can also import any crossword you have access to, from any source, to solve in Puzzazz, for FREE (puzzles must be in .puz or ipuz format).

Everybody at Puzzazz hopes you enjoy these puzzles in the best of health. Let all your puzzle-loving friends know and keep safe!
