John Forbes has been constructing cryptic crosswords for decades — his first published puzzle was a Listener crossword in 1957. Since then, he has had both cryptic and variety cryptics published in the Dell Champion series, Dell’s Crosswords Crosswords and Tough Cryptics. He joined the National Puzzlers’ League in 1991 and has been a frequent contributor of variety cryptics and other puzzles for The Enigma.
A Scot who graduated from St Andrews University, John spent his early years in the British computer industry working as a software programmer on some of the first multi-programming machines. He moved to Canada in 1969 where he worked in the Finance Industry in Montreal and Vancouver. He now lives in retirement in Vancouver with his wife, Jayne and miniature poodle, Jackson.
